Crewneck sweatshirts have been making a comeback in the past couple years. They add a sense of class that a hoodie could not, even with a crazy screen printed graphic on the front. Here are a list of some crewneck sweatshirts that I personally like and think are worth the money. I tried to get as many different styles as possible. It is wintertime, so it’s good to stay warm while looking good.

This is a nice little chart made up of entirely CSS and Html that was designed by Jessica Hische. If you ever wondered if you should work for free or not, well here’s some help. You can go to the website and download the chart in case you ever end up in this dilemma again. http://www.shouldiworkforfree.com/
I came across the artwork of Jason Levesque last week and really liked it. It’s predominantly filled with illustrations of women with a many pieces using a pastel palette. He does have prints and original pieces for sale. Below are some images that I favor from his portfolio. To view more work go to http://blog.stuntkid.com/
Day 25 – Sketch.
1 – Go to “wikipedia.” Hit “random… Read More”
or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.
2 – Go to “Random quotations”
or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.
3 – Go to flickr and click on “explore the last seven days” or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.
4 – Use photoshop or similar to put it all together. Make sure it’s a square. 500 x 500 pixels is ideal.
This is the Darth Vader design that I was working on. I call it “Oakland Vader”. I was listening to a Swollen Members song where “raiders” and “darth vader” were rhymed and the concept hit me. Also, I think it fits since it’s still football season. I recreated the shield, the font, and of course I drew Darth Vader’s head. It was a fun little concept to work on.
By no means am I a Star Wars geek. I don’t understand the whole Star Wars obsession, because it’s an okay series. Entertaining, but not worth going gaga over. Darth Vader is a badass character in general, so that didn’t bother me. BUT if anyone from the Lucasfilm Ltd or anyone has a license rights to Star Wars characters, I would create some really good designs.
Day 21 – I thought this was a cool idea and I think I have a base of an idea that needs to be fully complete. “Graffiti Ninja”
The Canadian hip hop group Swollen Members had a contest for their fans to recreate their album covers. They’re planning on rereleasing these cds and giving the chance to give back to their fans. The deadline is Feb. 10, 2011, so there is time to work on it. The downside is they retain all the rights and you do win a pretty good package, but I’m not sure if you get credit for the album cover artwork, I would hope so. By the look of the submissions, it does not look like there’s stiff competition, but at the same time I’m not sure if they have been updating the gallery. This is what the website has to say about their prize package:
“The prize packages will consist of SWOLLEN MEMBERS CDs, records, a t shirt, a poster and stickers and hats and t shirt from RED DRAGON!! (RDS)….and of course…YOUR AMAZING COVER AS A PART OF THE SWOLLEN MEMBER’S LEGACY….Your art will be a part of our history!!!”
Here is a video to give you a little bit more detail on the matter and here is the link to view. http://www.swollenmembers.com/2010/12/03/attention-all-swollen-fans-family-and-friends/
I thought these illustrations were quite clever. Leon Ryan has his Ace of Spades illustration for sale as poster. You can buy that here: http://www.leonryan.com/site/shop
I worked on this concept previously(click here to view), but I was not too thrilled about it. Here is the latest version, which I think is a bit simpler and is cleaner. I played around with it as a one color and full color design. Who knows if I’ll actually print or resubmit it to a design contest.
